I wanna fly away...
Well, this is it. On October 1st 2003, we'll step onstage at the Dublin Castle to play our final gig for 2003.
Sarah is flying to Australia at the end of October to fulfil a long-held desire to do some travelling, and so we are without a singer until 2004. Since we love Sarah so much, we unanimously agreed that we didn't want to replace her and so whilst she's away seeing the world we're taking a little hiatus from gigging.
Whilst we were in the mood for making the big decisions, we also decided that it was about time for us to assume a new identity. So, after 10 years of being named after a Fluke remix, on October 2nd the entity known as Slide Pheromone will be no more. We're sick of typing 'Pheromone', you know.
The Band Formerly Known As Slide Pheromone (TBFKASP - very catchy) will return in 2004 with a new name, new music and wherever possible, new haircuts. Until then...
Do Re Mi - EP update 4

The final parts are now in place. Sarah and Martin spent a day laying down the vocal tracks for the EP last Sunday. Sarah's been taking vocal tuition to improve her voice, and it has really paid dividends both in playing live and singing in the studio. The vocals sound so much better than anything we've recorded previously, and that's not down to studio trickery!
So, that's it for the recording. Barring the occasional overdub, we have now recorded all the parts for the EP. If you add up the total studio time, we've only spent 20 hours in total recording everything. Less than a day. How's that for efficiency?
Go squidge - EP update 3

We now have the synth tracks recorded for the EP. Des came into the studio and after some button-pushing and fiddling, laid down all of the keyboard tracks for the EP songs.
Des's synth sounds are our secret musical ingredient - without them the songs have been sounding a little empty, missing that little something. With the synth tracks added, the tracks now start to feel like Slide Pheromone songs. And believe me, there are some fat sounds on some of the tracks! We love the SuperNova II...
Next: the heart of any song. The vocals.
I like distortion - EP update 2

Neil and Martin spent Sunday laying down almost all of the guitar tracks for the EP. That's 6 songs' worth of guitar, both acoustic and electric, recorded in just under 6 hours!
Now we have guitar parts down to disk, the songs are really starting to take shape. The guitar parts are sounding really good, and this is the first time that we've actually miked up Neil's 'Blue Meanie' amplifier. Normally we cheat and use amp simulators, but for the EP we decided to take the time to get a really good sound.
Next up is Des's synth parts, which will hopefully be recorded sometime this week. More updates coming very soon!
We have liftoff - EP update 1

Instead of lounging around in the sun drinking beer and doing very little, we're spending our summer recording an EP for all you fine people to enjoy. Tristan and Martin have just spent an entertaining couple of nights recording the rhythm tracks down into Pro Tools. The results so far sound pretty good, even if we do say so ourselves. Five tracks are now ready for Neil to apply his guitar magic, just as soon as he sorts a dodgy control on his ninja effects unit...
Stay tuned for more EP updates in the coming weeks!
The boy done good, Trevor.
From page 67 of this month's DJ Magazine (No. 39) regarding Oli Freke, contributor of the Statick [Remixt] remix for this site and the man who originally brought bleepy techno squelch to the Slidey P sound:
"Oli Freke & Lizzie Curious Supercollider / Transation
It's good to see Raymondo's Transation label firmly back on track with a new distribution deal, and next stop is Supercollider. Oli Freke is no stranger to the scene, having appeared on Fevah Trance, as wel as being one half of Contact Assist, and now teams up with Lizzie Curious for this latest offering. Two hi-octance trance mixes are on offer, with the original mix an invigorating fusion of driving basslines, squelching synths and euphoric melodies and key changes, while the Kain Piller remake has more of a grungy psy-trance slant for the underground crowds. The strongest release to date from Transation, and we're assured there's more in the pipeline. 4/5 Bars."
Nice one, fella. We're proud of ya. The record is available in all good record shops now. To listen to a sample click here.
More Static...
Head over to the remixes page to hear the perfectly chilled "Static Wandering", a remix by Moshon. Some blurb form the man himself:
"Its all about the movement. Moshon aims to move you in all the ways that music can. Move your body, move your mind, move your soul. The various Moshon projects were developed with this in mind.
Moshon was established in 2000 and currently consists of Slo-Moshon and Moshon. The first release, 'Shards' features tracks from both of these projects. Styles are transient, genres are lucid. Expect more throughout 2003."
Note: Shards is a 6 track demo sampler from Moshon. Copies can be ordered for free from funkyspace@blueyonder.co.uk (please provide mail address details).
If anyone else out there fancies remixing a tune drop us a line at info@slidepheromone.com. Let us know which tune you're interested in mangling and we'll try and sort you out with the samples.
World Domination
The site's been up for a month, we've nuked our bandwidth limit, had 5000-odd MP3s downloaded and lots of good feedback. As Hannibal would say: "I love it when a plan comes together." Big thanks to Styleboost, three.oh and all the other nice people who linked to the site after its launch. Also thanks to Dan Chick and IBG Hosting for not shutting us down when it went nuts for a while... :-)
We've just put some photos up from the last couple of gigs in the images section and in the next few weeks expect a new tune and another remix of Static to appear.
Keep 'em peeled.
